Wellbeing Coordinator Julie has conquered her fears and raised an incredible £1,378.75 for St Helena Hospice.
Julie, Wellbeing Coordinator at Elmcroft Care Home, recently stepped far outside her comfort zone to take on an incredible challenge — a skydive in support of St Helena Hospice.
After weeks of fundraising, with fantastic support from residents, families, colleagues, friends and the local community, Julie finally took the leap and successfully completed her skydive.
“It was absolutely incredible, but I have to admit, I was terrified!” Julie said. “Standing there knowing I was actually about to jump out of a plane was definitely one of the biggest things I have ever done outside my comfort zone.”
“But the moment I jumped, it was amazing. There was so much excitement and adrenaline, and when I landed, I just felt an enormous sense of achievement.”
Julie’s fundraising has now reached an incredible £1,378.75, helping support the vital work of St Helena Hospice, which provides compassionate care and support to people across North Essex living with incurable illness, as well as their families and loved ones.
The challenge has a particularly special meaning for Julie and the Elmcroft team. St Helena Hospice recently delivered training for staff at the care home, giving colleagues a greater insight into the important work the hospice carries out within the local community.
“Having St Helena Hospice come into the home and provide training really highlighted to me just how important the work they do is,” Julie explained. “It made me want to do something to support them and give something back.”
Throughout Julie’s fundraising journey, residents, families and colleagues at Elmcroft Care Home have been cheering her on and supporting her every step of the way.
The team are incredibly proud of Julie for taking on such a daunting challenge and turning her personal goal of conquering her fears into an opportunity to make a real difference to others.
“Every day at Elmcroft, we see how important kindness, dignity and meaningful moments are. The hospice shares those same values, and I feel incredibly proud that I have been able to support such a wonderful local charity.”
Julie also thanked everyone who contributed to her fundraising and encouraged her along the way.
“I’m so grateful to everyone who supported me, donated, shared my fundraising page and encouraged me along the way. Raising more than £1,300 makes all the nerves and the fear completely worth it.”
What started as a challenge to conquer her own fears has become a remarkable fundraising achievement and a memorable experience for Julie and the whole Elmcroft community.
A huge congratulations to Julie on completing her skydive and raising an amazing £1,378.75 for St Helena Hospice! We are incredibly proud of you! 🪂💙
