Elmcroft Care Home has been awarded a “Good” rating across all areas by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), following a comprehensive inspection completed in January, marking a significant turnaround for the service.
Elmcroft provides residential care and nursing care and support for older people and is situated in picturesque rural grounds.
The inspection was carried out to review progress following previous inspections.
As a result, CQC raised the ratings for all domains to good overall.
Hazel Roberts, Deputy Director of Adult Social Care in the East of England, praised the home’s progress.
She said:
“When we returned to Elmcroft Care Home, we were pleased to find significant improvements had been made across the service. The home had a positive and welcoming environment. People felt safe, respected, and well supported by a consistent staff team who knew them well.
“Leaders made clear improvements to how the home was run and worked well with health professionals to improve care. People, relatives, staff, and professionals all spoke positively about the registered manager, who led by example and had a positive impact on staff.
“Staff now involve people and their families in planning care, understand what matters to them, and support people to stay independent and make their own choices.”
She also highlighted the strong relationships between staff, residents, and families, noting that relatives felt listened to and confident in raising concerns. One family member told inspectors that staff knew everyone by name, helping families feel part of the home community.
Alongside improvements in leadership and care delivery, management and the activities team have introduced a wide range of wellbeing programmes and meaningful activities. These include visits to a dementia choir, trips to garden centres, carol singing, therapy dog sessions, and regular social events.
The home has also strengthened its links with the wider community and remains open and welcoming throughout the year. Elmcroft regularly hosts seasonal celebrations, small in-house gatherings, and community-focused events, helping residents stay connected and engaged.
Inspectors also found that:

One relative told inspectors that the improvements since the new manager started had been “significant,” reflecting the positive impact of leadership changes and staff commitment.
The CQC concluded that the staff and leaders at Elmcroft Care Home should be proud of the progress they have achieved together and confirmed that the regulator will continue to monitor the service to ensure these standards are maintained.
Management at Elmcroft says the “Good” rating reflects the dedication, resilience, and professionalism of the entire team, as well as their commitment to providing safe, compassionate, and person-centred care.
This latest achievement represents a major milestone for Elmcroft Care Home and reinforces its position as a trusted provider of high-quality care in Maldon and the surrounding area.
Sarah Associate Operations Director – I am so very proud of our team, who have worked so hard to achieve this rating. I am, as well, very grateful for the support of our relatives and families who have worked with us to co-produce the vision and values of the home, and without whom, it would not have been possible.
