At Abbey Healthcare, we are privileged to work alongside extraordinary individuals whose compassion, strength, and dedication transform the lives of residents every single day. The Abbey Awesome Awards 2025 shine a light on those who go above and beyond — not for recognition, but because caring is truly at the heart of who they are.
This year, we proudly celebrate three remarkable team members whose contributions have made an unforgettable impact across our homes.
Shanty – Aarandale Manor Care Home
Winner – Abbey Awesome Awards 2025

Few people embody the true essence of care like Shanty from Aarandale Manor. Her unwavering dedication, kindness, and resilience set her apart as a true angel within our Abbey Healthcare family.
Shanty supports one of our most complex residents — a double amputee experiencing severe pain, pressure sores, and distressed behaviours. Despite the emotional and physical challenges involved, Shanty approaches each day with a calm smile and endless patience. What makes her truly exceptional is her willingness to act from the heart: she often comes into work on her own time just to sit by his side during his deterioration, ensuring he is comfortable, peaceful, and never alone.
Spending hours supporting his dressings, pain relief, and emotional wellbeing, Shanty exemplifies what dignified, person-centred care looks like. Her end-of-life support is unparalleled, ensuring even the smallest wishes are honoured.
Beyond her home, she offers her skills — including cough assist and suction expertise — to any Abbey Healthcare home in need. Her compassion knows no boundaries, and neither does her willingness to help.
Families, residents, and colleagues have praised her endlessly, and this award is a reflection of the extraordinary impact she makes every day.
Jephtah (Jeff) Omavueya – Abbeydale Court
Commended – Abbey Awesome Awards 2025
Jeff joined Abbeydale Court in September 2023, bringing with him a unique background as a former primary school teacher from Lagos, Nigeria. His decision to leave teaching and pursue a career in care shows not only courage but a deep desire to make a difference in people’s lives.
Since stepping into his role, Jeff has become a valued role model within the team. His calm, supportive nature makes him an exceptional mentor to new staff, guiding them through their induction with care and confidence. Eager to expand his skill set, Jeff trained as a Basic Life Support instructor in 2024 — training that became vital during a recent emergency. Although the outcome was tragic, Jeff’s leadership during the event, and his compassionate debriefing afterward, offered strength and comfort to the whole team.
He didn’t retreat from the challenge. Instead, he used the experience to further strengthen the team and ensure no one felt unsupported.
Recently, Jeff completed his SVQ3 qualification in just three months, demonstrating his remarkable commitment to professional growth.
Families have reached out time and again to express gratitude for the tender, loving care Jeff provides within our dementia unit. His kindness, empathy, and professionalism make him an invaluable part of Abbeydale Court.

Julie Stone – Elmcroft Care Home
Commended – Abbey Awesome Awards 2025
Since joining Elmcroft Care Home in January, Julie Stone has played a transformative role in reshaping the Activities Department — and in doing so, reshaping residents’ lives.
Julie’s work is driven by meaningful connection. She takes time to truly understand each resident, building trust and creating personalised activities that bring joy, confidence, and purpose back into their daily lives. Her dedication has been widely recognised by residents, their families, the team, HQ, Local Authority, and external inspectors.
Her case studies tell powerful stories of change — none more remarkable than the two residents who, due to severe anxiety, had rarely left their rooms. Under Julie’s gentle encouragement and tailored support, both now come out daily. One of them, who had not left their house or let anyone in for many years, now eagerly joins every outing with fellow residents.
Such transformations go beyond activities; they restore dignity, independence, and a sense of belonging.
Julie’s commitment has created life-changing outcomes for residents, and her presence at Elmcroft is cherished by all.

A Final Word of Gratitude
Our Abbey Awesome Awards 2025 winners and commendees embody the heart of Abbey Healthcare. Their stories remind us that exceptional care is not defined by tasks completed, but by the compassion, respect, and humanity we offer to others.
To Shanty, Jeff, and Julie — thank you.
Your dedication touches lives, uplifts communities, and inspires us all.
Here’s to celebrating not only your achievements but the incredible people you are.
