10 August 2026
Saturday 9th August was a truly special day at Cromwell House Care Home as we celebrated an incredible milestone – the 100th birthday of our wonderful resident, Joan Smits! 💕🎉
Joan has been a much-loved resident at Cromwell House since 2019 and, over the years, has become a very special part of our care home community. Her warmth, personality and love of life continue to inspire those around her.
A keen participant in our social activities and events, Joan particularly enjoys musical entertainment. In fact, whenever the music starts playing, Joan is often one of the first to make her way to the dance floor and show everyone her moves!
Her 100th birthday was the perfect opportunity to bring together the people who mean the most to her. Joan’s daughters and family joined us for a wonderful afternoon filled with music, laughter, memories and plenty of celebration.
Our talented kitchen team also helped make the occasion extra special by preparing a delicious buffet, with Joan making one very important request – an “old style” buffet, complete with one of her favourites, devilled eggs! The celebrations were topped off with a fabulous birthday cake, providing the perfect centrepiece for such an extraordinary occasion.
We were also delighted to welcome the Mayor and Mayoress of Huntingdon, who joined us to wish Joan a very happy 100th birthday and help mark this remarkable achievement.
Most importantly, the afternoon was about celebrating Joan – her life, her memories and the wonderful person she is. Surrounded by her family, friends and the Cromwell House team, it was a beautiful reminder of how special milestone birthdays can be and the joy that comes from bringing generations together.
And, of course, Joan made sure to enjoy the celebrations in true Joan style – including a few celebratory sherries!
From everyone at Cromwell House and Abbey Healthcare, happy 100th birthday, Joan!
